I have had this problem with the wiring failing at the plug many times
with many different brands of headphones/earbuds. I run with my MP3 player and the wire
also gets a workout, swaying back and forth for many cycles until finally the wire
fails. My daugher also has the same problem with wiring
. The partial solution I have found, is to take a short piece of heat shrink tubing (about 1.5 to 2 inches in length, that will just fit over the plug
(you can buy it at Radio Shack, Nappa Auto Parts, etc.). Position it so it is over the plug
body and extends over the wiring
. Apply heat with a hair dryer and it will shrink onto the plug
. This will lessen the amount of bending at the plug
. Eventually, the wire
will still fail, but it will last a lot longer. Whenever, I buy a new set of heaphones or earbuds, I install
the heat shrink, and it seems to help.
The other recommendation I have is if you buy your headphones from Radio Shack just buy the warranty. They have lowered the price for the warranty to only 99 cents on their inexpensive $10 headphones, so at least you will be covered when it fails. And it WILL fail.
Amazing that we can land a man on the moon, but we can`t make a durable set of headphones!
